Zane Handy Named Midwest Lacrosse Conference Defensive Player of the Week

Illinois Institute of Technology freshman Zane Handy (St. Margaret’s ’19) made the most of the only start he will see in 2020 by earning Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week of March 8 – March 15.

Handy rejected 14 shots and recovered 4 groundballs to lead the Scarlet Hawks to a 15-5 win over Beloit College on March 10. The victory marked the new program’s first-ever win and Handy will go down in history as the first Scarlet Hawk to earn the MLC Defensive Player of the Week award.

The MLC canceled the remainder of the season due to COVID-19 concerns on March 19 before Zandy and his teammates had a chance to play another game. The Scarlet Hawks finished 2020 with a 1-1 record.
