Yorba Linda High School improved their record to 3-0 with a thrilling overtime win over Mater Dei High School. In a seesaw battle, Christian Finke got the Mustangs on the board first with an unassisted drive down the heart of the Mater Dei defense. The Monarchs then went on a run getting two goals apiece from Tommy Brown (with assists from Jack Simonis and Zach Johsz) and Jack Southron (the first off a nice cross crease feed from Simonis), to open up a 4-1 lead early in the second quarter. Jake Norton, Skyler Finke, Kevin Anthony came right back with goals for the Mustangs to make it a 4-4 game at the intermission.
The Mustangs opened the second half the same way as the first, with a goal. Kaid0n Newberry made it 5-4 Yorba Linda with an assist from Norton. Noah Tonies then found Justin Amling on the crease and the Mustangs were up by two. Then it was the Monarchs turn to score a couple goals. Simonis continued to share the wealth, and got the Monarchs back within on when he found Joe Alvarado on the crease for his third assist of the night. Nick Sando tied the game at sixes when he redirected a pass from Southron into the back of the net.
The score remained deadlocked until Newberry intercepted a clearing pass in overtime and waltzed in to the ball in the open net for the win.
