The Servite Friars and Yorba Linda Mustangs met at Servite High School in an early season battle between two teams eager to show they are moving up the ladder.Servite is showing signs of being one of the most improved teams in Orange County lacrosse. Yorba Linda is looking to continue its upward trend after finishing 16-2 and making the playoffs for the first time in last year. It turned out to be a hard fought battle between two competitive teams. The score was 6-5 Yorba Linda as they headed into the fourth quarter. However, the fourth quarter and the game belonged to the Mustangs. The Yorba Linda offense stepped up with 3 goals in the fourth and their defense held the Friars to one more goal putting the final score at Yorba Linda 9, Servite 7.
Both teams did a nice job of sharing the ball. Kaden Newberry (2 goals), Kyle Price (1 goal), Ryan Viadero (2 assists), Jake Norton (1 goal), Noah Tonier (1 goal), Jake Diderich (1 goal, 2 assists), Mike Ripley (1 goal), Justin Anderson (1 goal), and Mark Renfro all registered points for the Mustangs. Michael Seaman , Evan Purpura, and Nick Prado all scored Servite goals. Adam and Andreas Armienta each chipped in with an assist.
The 3-0 Mustangs face their biggest challenge of the season when they host St. Margaret’s on Friday night. Servite (1-2) will attempt to bounce back from two consecutive losses in close games when they to La Canada to play St. Francis on Saturday.
