Yorba Linda High School came out on top of Servite High School 9-7 in the season opener for the two Top 20 teams. The game was tightly contested throughout, with Yorba Linda holding a 4-3 lead after the first quarter. Yorba Linda expanded their lead to 6-3 at the half with two unanswered scores in the second quarter. Servite fought back in the second half but could not come back all the way.

Kaidon Newberry’s hat trick led the Mustangs. Jake Norton scored two, and Colin McDonald, Alex Vega, Justin Amling, and Kevin Anthony scored one goal each to account for the Yorba Linda production.

Junior Chase Anderson lead the Friars with four goals. Senior Kyle Cartwright (2g, 1a) Adam Armienta (2g) also scored for Servite. The Friars distributed the ball well throughout the game with juniors Matthew Glenn (2a), Austin Felix (1a), and Jack Brennan (1a) all recording assists.
