The Orange County Women’s National Tournament Team opens play today in the US Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament at Yale University in Connecticut. A total of 24 girls’ lacrosse players (including two alternates) from 12 Orange County and Riverside County high schools were selected for the team following a tryout in March.
The three-day event coincides with the weekend’s NCAA Women’s Final Four championships Friday and Sunday and also includes an exhibition game between the U.S. Women’s National Team and Team Canada.
In all, more than 1,200 players on 64 regional all-star teams representing 27 states will compete in eight divisions at the Women’s National Tournament.
The OC team, coached by Foothill head coach Kate Hick and Tesoro head coach Lauren Ciccomascolo, will compete in Pool A of the Iroquois Division. OC opens play Saturday at 8 a.m. Pacific Time against Connecticut, then follows at 10 a.m. PT against Gulf Coast and at noon against Maine.
Saturday’s results will determine seeding for Sunday’s bracket play against Pool B (Los Angeles, Georgia 2, New Hampshire/Vermont 2, and Tennessee).
