Sophomore Tyler Whitney scored the game-winning goal with 2:16 left in overtime Friday, lifting No. 4 Agoura to a 9-8 victory over visiting No. 7 Oaks Christian in a Marmonte League game.
The Chargers (7-2, 2-1) had to rally from a three-goal deficit late in the game to send it to overtime, getting the tying goal from senior Marty Shargel with 2:25 to play in regulation.
Shargel finished with five goals to lead Agoura, and Whitney and Gage Garrison each had two goals and an assist. Logan Buchholz had one assist. The Chargers’ Spencer Foreman won 15 of 20 face-offs.
Oaks Christian (6-2, 0-2), which lost for the second time in a row after a 6-0 start, pulled away from a 3-3 halftime tie to lead 7-4 on goals from Danny Redell, Cort Rogers, Mike Spaeth and Redell again.
Cade Rogers led the Lions with three goals, and Cort Rogers (2g) and Redell (2g, 1a) scored multiple points. Spaeth had one goal, and Carson Campbell and Lorenzo Santor each had an assist.
It was the third nail-biter in a row for the Lions, who beat West Ranch 4-3 in double-overtime March 17, then lost 9-7 at Thousand Oaks on Wednesday after pulling within 8-6 late in the game.
Agoura next plays host to Thousand Oaks on Wednesday, while Oaks Christian plays host to Calabasas.
