West Boys Impress in Day 1 of Under Armour Underclass Tournament

The West Boys Command and Highlight teams went a combined 3-1 on the first day of pool play at the Under Armour Underclass tournament.  The Highlight Team (2017 and 2018 graduating classes) finished the day on top of their five-team pool with a 2-0 record.  The Command team (2019 and 2020 graduating classes) split their two games with Baltimore and Upstate New York to end the day in second place of their five-team pool. Recaps are provided below.  Pool play continues today.  The top three teams in each five-team pool advance to Sunday’s playoffs.

<h3>West Boys Command Team Falls to Baltimore, Defeats Upstate New York</h3>

The West Command Team opened the tournament with a 7-5 loss to Baltimore and then rebounded with a comfortable 11-6 win over Upstate New York.  Holden Evans (1 goal, 1 assist)  was the only player from Orange County to score in the loss to Baltimore.   Kevin Groeninger (1g, 1a), Evans (1g), and Koa Todd (n0. 6 in the picture above; 1a) contributed to the West scoring in the victory over upstate New York.  Jason Garrett is also on the West Command Team.  The West Command Team (1-1) finished the day in second place behind Baltimore (3-0).  The other three teams in the pool (Upstate New York, South and New England) are all 1-1.  West Command completes pool play today with games against South Command at 10:15 a.m. eastern time and New England Command at 12:45 p.m. eastern time.

<h3>West Boys Highlight Team Downs </h3>

A high scoring West Highlight Team defeated Upstate New York 16-10 and South 12-7 on Friday to end the first day of pool 2-0.  Brennan Greenwald, Ellis Geis, Jordan Pakzad are on the West Highlight Team roster.
