March 17, 2014 – St. John’s School of Houston makes their annual “Spring Break” lacrosse trip to Orange County. For the last 12 years, the ladies lacrosse program at St. Johns School of Houston has travelled with their Varsity and Junior Varsity players to compete in scrimmages with other mature lacrosse programs. This was the first year St John’s has played in Orange County. Combining Varsity and Junior Varsity teams, 46 Southern Belle’s came out to play our OC Ladies – Aliso Niguel Wolverines and the Los Alamitos Griffins.
The highlight on the field was Los Alamitos defeating the defending state Champions 10-7. The Lady Griffins were absolutely tenacious both on offense and defense. Such a win is something to feel proud of. But the real “win” was that all of these girls, their families, fans, and coaches came together for “the love of the game”. Even after tough competitive games, everyone sat together, cheered each other on, ate together and enjoyed the camaraderie. Head coach of Aliso Niguel, Dave Elkins had this to say: “This event was so great! It was awesome to see all of these girls come together for the love of the sport. The Texas girls were hardworking and friendly. My girls loved them. We wish we could have spent more time with them. The St John’s School of Houston, their team, coaches and fans were a real class act. We hope to continue to do more of these “cross cultural” events in the future.” Sounds like this experience was a “WIN – WIN” for everyone!
