Get to Know the Under Armour West Girls Teams

The 11th annual Under Armour Under Class tournament begins July 1 in Baltimore.  A total of nine girls will play on the Under Armour West Command Team (2019 and 2020) graduation classes.  Four others will play on the Under Armour West Highlight Team (2017 and 2018) graduating classes.  The players were selected after participating in a tryout  intended to select the top 22 players in their respective age groups. Read on to get to know the young women who will play in this prestigious event.

Under Armour West Girls Command Team

Allie Binder, St. Margaret's girls lacrosse, Under Armour West Girls
Allie Binder (no. 19 above) is a rising sophomore at St. Margaret’s. The speedy defender had two assists and 20 groundballs as freshman. Binder is a multi-sport athlete who was named “Best Offensive Player” on the Tartans’ soccer team and received the cross country Coach’s Award.

Campbell Case, Under Armour West Girls, St. Margaret's girls lacrosse
Campbell Case (facing the camera above) is one of only four rising freshmen on the Under Armour West Command team. Campbell tallied 25 goals and 10 assists during the past tournament season. She will play for St. Margaret’s in the fall.

Hennessey Evans, Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse, Under Armour West Girls
Hennessey Evans (no. 27 above) is a rising sophomore at Trabuco Hills.  Evans finished her freshman season with 78 goals, 13 assists, 36 groundballs.  She was named 1st Team All League and 2nd Team All County.

Jamie Ko, Mater Dei girls lacrosse, Under Armour West girls
Jamie Ko was one of five freshmen who played varsity for Mater Dei this spring. She began as a starting defender before moving to a starting position on attack. Ko finished the season with five goals, four assists and 21 groundballs.

Emily Maahs, Mater Dei girls lacrosse, Under Armour
Emily Maahs also saw significant playing time as a freshman with Mater Dei.  Maahs is one of the fastest girls on the team. Coach Cressita Bowman says Maahs “can play anywhere and she can come out of seemingly nowhere”.  Maahs had 23 loose balls, 9 goals, 7 assists, and 9 draw control wins this season.

Katelyn Murphy, Santa Margarita Girls Lacrosse, Under Armour West Girls
Katelyn Murphy is a rising sophomore at Santa Margarita Catholic High School. Murphy scored 36 goals, handed out 10 assists and recovered 33 groundballs as a freshman.

Joslyn Simaan, Corona del Mar girls lacrosse, Under Armour West girls
Joslyn Simaan is a rising sophomore defender for Corona Del Mar. Simaan made a splash in her first year of varsity play, earning CdM Rookie of the Year and 2nd Team All League.

Peyton Smith Mater Dei Under Armour West Girls
Peyton Smith is another rising sophomore who made big contributions to Mater Dei’s undefeated season. Coach Bowman said Smith was a big part of the team’s offensive possessions who never backed down from older players. She had 7 goals, 2 assists, and 16 loose balls during her freshman season.

Brooke Williams, Beckman girls lacrosse, Under Armour Girls West
Brooke Williams is a rising sophomore at Beckman.  She completed her freshman season with 46 goals, 20 assists and 38 groundballs.  Williams received the Coach’s Award and was First Team All League.

Under Armour West Girls Highlight Team

Grace Houser, Mater Dei Girls Lacrosse, Under Armour
Grace Houser, a three year varsity starter at Mater Dei, continues to be a top competitor who does it all for the Monarchs.  Coach Bowman says t he rising senior dominates on draw controls and loose balls,  and has has responded to three years of constant face guards by improving her ability to handle the ball under pressure.   She had 70 goals, 20 assists,  76 draw control wins and 29 loose balls this season. Grace was named All American and First Team All County. She is verbally committed to Cal.

Quinnlyn Mason, Girls Under Armour West, Aliso Niguel
Quinnlyn Mason is a rising junior and two-year varsity starter at Aliso Niguel. She finished 2016 with 53 goals, 15 assists and 59 groundballs. She was the Wolverines’ MVP attack and received the Players’ Choice Award this season.  Mason is also committed to play at Cal.

Sydney Payne, Mater Dei girls lacrosse, Under Armour
Sydney Payne primarily played defense this season, but was a key component to helping the Monarchs anywhere on the field. She rotated in on the draw and the circle and she finished the season with 32 draw control wins. She was also the team’s leader in loose balls (53).  Sydney earned Second Team All County honors.

Kenzie Wallevand Mater Dei-g
Mackenzie Wallevand blossomed for Mater Dei this season and dominated in all areas of the game. She was the  leading scorer with 92 goals and  56 assists.  Wallevand also had 100 draw control wins and 36 caused turnovers.  She was the player of the game in the OC Finals, All American, First Team All County, Team MVP, and an OC Varsity Player of the Week.  Mackenzie verbally committed to Fresno State.
