The Trabuco Hills boys lacrosse team traveled to San Clemente Thursday night, for an important South Coast League matchup.
Last year, Trabuco defeated San Clemente for the first time in school history. But that was last season.
This season, it’s a different story.
Memories of that loss must have haunted the Tritons, as they dominated the Mustangs this time around.
At the start, the game was competitive. No one could have guessed the eventual outcome, as the first quarter ended with Trabuco Hills up 2-1.
Then came the second quarter. The Triton offense caught fire, reeling off five straight goals to take command at the half, 6-2.
As the second half opened, it looked like the Mustangs might stage a comeback with a brother-to-brother Holden-to-Harrison Evans score. But a comeback was not to be. The Tritons unleashed a four-goal scoring barrage to keep the Mustangs in the corral. The quarter closed with SC firmly on top, 10-4.
The Triton offense continue to fire on all cylinders through the fourth, notching 7 goals to the Mustangs’ 2. Final score San Clemente 17, Trabuco Hills 6.
Nine different Tritons scored: Matt Keany (3g, 1a), Josh Sanchez (3g), Branden Wilson (3g), David Howren (3g) plus Ryan Crawford (Whittier), Josh Ortiz, Michael Guillotte, Jake Steele and Wakely Lush with 1 goal apiece. Nick Lemus (Air Force) pitched in with 4 assists. Caleb Bozarth and Omeed Farhadi picked up 4 ground balls each, with Wilson finding 3 gbs. Goalie Austin Boyer (Cleveland State) shut down the Trabuco offense with 11 saves over three quarters. Harrison Webb came up with 5 saves in the fourth.
Trabuco Hills was led by Billy Barron with 2 goals plus Jason Kauo, Holden Evans, Harrison Evans and John Kauo with 1 score each. Scotty Barger (Towson) came up with 7 ground balls.
With the win, San Clemente sweeps the season series with Trabuco. The Tritons are off until next Friday night, when they face league rival Tesoro on the road. The Mustangs host Aliso Viejo next Tuesday.
