Senior attackman Austin Streeter scored seven goals and San Clemente’s potent offense and stingy defense continued to click in a 16-3 regular-season finale at Mission Viejo Thursday night. The win wraps up an undefeated league record of 8-0 and gives the Tritons their first league title in four years. The Tritons improved to 14-4, while the Diablos finished their season with a 7-8 mark.
The Tritons went up 5-0 on goals from Peyton Garrett (2 goals, 1 assist), Eric Zoe, Collin Zines (2 goals, 3 assists), Nick Lemus and Streeter before Mission Viejo got on the scoreboard courtesy of sophomore midfielder Danny Corbo. Streeter’s second of the day put SC up 6-1 at the half. Nathan Kuri‘s extra man goal assisted by Evan Hunter made it 6-2, but SC scored the next five goals to extend the lead and put the game out of reach. Hunter’s goal in the fourth quarter was the lone Mission Viejo tally as San Clemente pulled away for the 16-3 road win.
Also scoring for SC were Torin Alm (1 goal, 2 assists) and Jack Renard (2 goals, 1 assist) while Austin Lickley added four assists.
Adam Brownell led the team with six ground balls, Stone Sims had three takeaways and Caleb Bozarth had four clears.
