Tritons Host Annual Alumni Game

San Clemente's boys varsity lacrosse team played its 2018 Alumni Game on Dec. 22.

On December 22, San Clemente HS boy’s varsity lacrosse held its annual alumni lacrosse game at Vista Hermosa Sports Park.  “I look forward to this event each year,” stated SC head coach Brenden Finnerty.  “It’s a great opportunity for our current varsity players to stay connected with the guys who help build our program.  Many of our players have gone to play at top D1 and club programs around the nation so our current players have a chance to learn about what it takes to play at the next level.”

The game has historically been dominated by the alumni but this year’s varsity squad battled hard.  The game was tied at halftime but the alumni put together a late offensive surge to pull away for the victory.  “It’s my first time back as an alumni so I was very excited to see my old teammates,” said Branden Wilson, a freshman at D1 University of Utah.  “I remember playing against many of the alumni and recall how helpful they were sharing their college lacrosse experiences so I wanted to do the same for the current high school players.”

Said Coach Finnerty: “For me, this is all about keeping the alumni connected to our program.  They have an open invitation to practice with us when they’re home from school or just pop by practice to offer encouragement.  The alumni are a great example to our current players about what it takes to play in college at any level.  They were part of the foundation of San Clemente lacrosse and it’s important we build on the legacy they established.”
