The San Clemente boys’ lacrosse team traveled to Tesoro Friday night, to take on the rival Titans. Three weeks prior, these two teams looked evenly matched, with the Tritons pulling out a hard-fought one-goal win. This time around, a potential league title was at stake. A win for Tesoro would likely earn the Titans a share of the league crown. A win for SC would mean that the Tritons would win the highly competitive South Coast League by virtue of having swept their series against both Tesoro and Trabuco Hills.
San Clemente started impressively and never looked back; by the end of the first quarter, the Tritons opened up a 5-1 lead. By half time the rout was on, with SC up 11-3. San Clemente’s long-stick midfielders–Omeed Farhadi and Ryan Crawford–along with defensive midfield play from Tanner Wright helped set the tone with numerous defensive takeaways.
Each team added three goals through the second half. Final score San Clemente 14, Tesoro 6.
Eight different Tritons scored: Sander Lush (3g), Josh Sanchez (3g), Nick Lemus (Air Force, 1g, 2a), Omeed Farhadi (2g), David Howren (2g) plus Ryan Crawford (Whittier), Branden Wilson and Liam Nelson with 1 goal apiece. Lemus picked up 4 ground balls, with Tanner Wright and Cade Nordland grabbing 3 gbs each.
Both goalies were excellent, with San Clemente’s Austin Boyer (Cleveland State) making several big saves in the game to deny a Tesoro rally.
Tesoro’s offense was led by Carson and Cole Spooner, Chris Graffia, Brian Graves, Braden King and Kelly O’Leary.
The Tritons will wrap up league play against Capo Valley and Aliso Niguel next week. Tesoro travels to Trabuco Hills next Tuesday.
