Arizona State senior attackman Jake Marthens (Trabuco Hills ’15)  earned the MCLA Division I Commanding Performance of the Week honors leading the Sun Devils to wins over No. 19 Colorado State and No. 7 Colorado wins last week.

Marthens struck for five goals on Thursday to pace the Sun Devils in a 16-6 win over Colorado State.  He followed that up on Saturday with three goals and a helper in the upset of No. 7 Colorado, 12-6, giving him a nine-point weekend.

The back-to-back wins propelled the Sun Devils from No. 10 to No. 5 in the MCLA coaches poll.

“Jake has been quite the performer for this program over the last several years and he has a knack of finding the back of the net at key times,”  Arizona State coach Casey Connor, told MCLA.US. “And he is such an explosive scorer, as evidenced by three goals in under 25 seconds this past weekend.

“He can be hard to cover. Even more importantly, as we work towards building a championship culture, his leadership this year has been invaluable.”

For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Marthens will receive a new Under Armour Command Head. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.
