Trabuco, Edison Impress at Air Station Shootout

A total of 50 boys’ lacrosse teams from Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Diego gathered at the Great Park this weekend for 3rd Annual Air Station Shootout. The tournament was highlighted by the presence of 20 varsity-level teams in the Elite Division. Don’t miss the video highlights from Big Boom Video at the bottom of this article.

Elite Division

The Elite Division was split into an A pool and a B pool. Parity was the order of the day in pool A. The Stallions (Trabuco Hills) finished the weekend 4-0, making them the only team in Group A to escape the weekend unscathed. The defending South Coast League champs topped a competitive pool that included teams from St. Margaret’s, Santa Margarita, Loyola, Cathedral Catholic, Foothill, and Palos Verdes to name a few. The OC Rebels (Santa Margarita) and Victory (St. Margaret’s) were 3-1 on the weekend. Goons (Westlake and other Conejo Valley schools) and Crush (Foothill) were each 2-1-1.

Wolverines (Aliso Niguel) and Hang Loose (Huntington Beach) topped the B pool with perfect 4-0 records. Surf City (Edison), entering only their third year of CIF competition, may have opened some eyes with their 3-1 performance. Are the Chargers ready to make the Sunset League even more competitive than it already is? Angel City (Servite) and Wildhorse (Beckman) also looked strong with 2-1-1 records.

High School Division

The Los Angeles teams ruled pool A in the High School Division. Goon and Factory (Palos Verdes) topped the seven-team bracket with 4-0 records. Goon outscored their opponents 43-9 while Factory 2018 had a 39-11 advantage over their foes. Victory SJC came in behind the L.A. teams with a 2-1-1 record.

The L.A. theme was replicated in the High School B pool. Factory 2019 topped an evenly matched pool with a 3-0-1 record. Rogue 56 (Westview High School) and BUKU also looked strong, finishing the weekend with 3-1 records. The Stallions Silver were right behind with a 2-1-1 record.

Youth Divisions

Crush and Victory topped the 2022/23 pool with identical 3-0-1 records. Their 6-6 tie on Sunday was one of the most entertaining games of the weekend. The future of Foothill lacrosse looks bright as Hewes finished the weekend with a 4-0 record in the 2020/21 division, good enough for first place in pool A. The OC Rebels claimed the B pool with a 3-1 record.
