Top Seeds Advance With Ease in LA Playoffs

There were no surprises Tuesday in the first round of the US Lacrosse Southern Section North championship tournament, with all higher seeds and home teams winning and advancing to Thursday’s second round. The top four seeds, in fact, won by an average score of 15-2.

No. 1 Palos Verdes handled No. 16 West Ranch 17-1; No. 2 Loyola had no trouble with No. 15 Sierra Canyon; No. 3 Harvard Westlake took care of No. 14 Santa Monica; and No. 4 Agoura overwhelmed No. 13 El Segundo 16-3.

The closest first-round games were No. 6 Oaks Christian’s 11-7 win over No. 11 Crespi and No. 7 Thousand Oaks’ 12-8 win over No. 10 Chaminade. Thousand Oaks actually led that game 9-0, then 9-2 at halftime, so the four-goal final margin is a bit misleading.

Elsewhere, No. 5 Oak Park started slowly but pulled away from No. 12 Palisades for a 12-7 win, and No. 8 Newbury Park held off No. 9 Westlake 10-5.

Second round games will be played Thursday, with PV, Loyola, Harvard Westlake and Agoura all playing at home.
