Redondo Union retained the No. 1 ranking in the MaxLaxLA Week 2 , but the Sea Hawks — a unanimous preseason No. 1 — received only seven of 18 votes this week and suddenly have company at the top of the rankings.

Westlake received four first-place votes and moved up to No. 2, and Palos Verdes received seven first-place votes — the same number as Redondo — and remains No. 3. All 18 ballots listed Westlake in the top four positions, including four at No. 1, while only 15 ballots had Palos Verdes in the top four. That enabled the Warriors to leapfrog the Sea Kings in the ranking.

All 18 ballots listed Redondo Union in the top three, including seven first-place and eight second-place votes.

Those three teams will have the opportunity to affect next week’s rankings with a couple of big matchups this week. Wednesday, No. 1 Redondo visits No. 3 Palos Verdes in a Bay League rivalry game. Thursday, Westlake plays host to defending section champion St. Margaret’s to complete a game that was suspended by weather last week with about 18 minutes remaining and the Warriors leading 14-7. Friday, Westlake plays host to Santa Margarita Catholic.

Other big climbers in this week’s poll include Glendale, which moved up from No. 8 to No. 4; Crescenta Valley, up from No. 11 to No. 7; Newbury Park, up from No. 18 to No. 9; and Oaks Christian, up from No. 17 to No. 13.

Those movers bumped down teams like Agoura (from No. 2 to No. 8), Cate School (from No. 5 to No. 12) and Royal (from No. 6 to No. 16).
