Three OC Participants in Outlaw’s First Regular Season Loss

The Battle of the Bay Rivalry between Corona del Mar High School and Newport Harbor High School has been elevated to the professional level. CdM assistant coaches Jeremy Sieverts and Noah Molnar (Denver Outlaws), and Newport assistant coach Josh Hawkins (Charlotte Hounds) duked it out in Major League Lacrosse action Saturday in Charlotte, NC.  This time the Sailor came out on top of the Sea Kings  as Hawkins and the  Hounds (2-5) defeated the Outlaws (5-1) 18-15 on Saturday evening at Memorial Stadium ending the Outlaws MLL record 25 consecutive regular season game winning streak.

The Hounds started off strong at both ends of the field and were able to outlast an Outlaws’ offense that entered the game leading the MLL in nearly every offensive category. The Hounds defense held the Outlaws to one goal in the first quarter. This was the first time in Denver’s first six games of 2014 that they failed to score at least three goals.  Sieverts was the only player of the three to find the back of the net, but he did so three times. One of his goals was a two-pointer on a man up opportunity that brought his season total to four two-pointers, a figure that leads the MLL.

The Hounds will face the Florida Launch next Saturday and hope sustain their winning ways. The Outlaws will try to bounce back from their first loss Saturday vs the Long Island Lizards.
