The Woodbridge High School boys’ lacrosse team enters 2018 with experience and momentum. The Warriors’ finished with a winning record for the first time since 2014 and closed out the season by winning five of their last seven games. Are the Warriors ready to Own the City?
The Warriors return 9 out of 10 starters from last year’s team which will be huge in the latter part of games this year. We are very proud of how our leaders have set an example this Fall, they have set a tone each and every practice and have shown the ability to be self-starters.
Some of our key returners are spread all over the field. We return our 2nd Team All-Conference goalie James Nakano, 1st Team All-Conference midfielder Carson Albin, 2nd Team All-Conference long pole defender Brad Walsh, and 2nd Team All-Conference midfielder Parker Haw. The Warriors also return starting attackmen, Matthew Chung and Brent Buckland. On defense, Sophmore Bryndon Cabreros, a running back and linebacker on the football team alongside senior defender Matt Birchler will provide the physical presence the Warriors lacked last year.
Losing a three-year starter in Zac Jacobs is big, especially in the assist department. Jacobs led the team in overall points, but his communication and leadership will be missed as much as his points.
Sophomores Alex Clayton (LSM), Jake Tobin (attack), James and Andrew Harker (midfield / LSM), and junior Joe Taman will be asked to play important minutes and make plays. Taman, a short stick defender, will be interesting to watch because of the way his athletic ability improves the Warrior transition game. Senior Cullen Darius and junior Kyle Dockery will battle for the left-handed attack spot.
The Warriors have set lofty goals. The team is working toward a 10 win season and a Own the City Tournament Championship in May.
Ready to Play
