The Tesoro Titans headed to Temecula to battle Great Oak this Saturday with the hope of bouncing back from last week’s loss to Foothill. Meanwhile, the Great Oak Wolfpack had other plans, eager to start the season with a win.
Great Oak came out aggressive early and rattled Tesoro in the opening minutes. After a few good opportunities and long possessions, Great Oak netted their first goal of the season to take a 1-0 lead. Tesoro responded with two goals to close a slow and sloppy first quarter. Great Oak picked it up in the middle of the second quarter, scoring 3 quick back-to-back goals and taking the lead to end the first half 4-3. The second half was a seesaw battle with both teams notching goals and trading the lead.
With 3:28 left, Great Oak tied the game, setting the stage for a tense finish. However, moments later, attackman Jake Douglas took the ball to the goal in transition, placing a shot that gave Tesoro the lead with just over 2 minutes remaining. Behind by a goal, Great Oak was forced to push out on defense, which opened the door for Tesoro to put in 3 additional goals to finish the game 13-9.
Tesoro scorers were led by Sage Devault (2 goals, 3 assists), Jake Douglas (2 goals, 2 assists) and Chase Warner (3 goals). Great Oak’s #4, Nick Cunningham had a solid game with 3 goals in the match.
