Tesoro fired on all cylinders Monday to take the victory over cross town rival Santa Margarita. After taking a 3-1 after 1Q and a 6-4 lead into the half Tesoro put the hammer down pitching a shut out in the 2nd half in impressive fashion.
“All the hard work and sacrifices of boys have made for the team are paying off. There’s a high level of confidence in Tesoro town”, stated coach Scott Grubert. Final score 10-4 Tesoro in this heated rivalry.
Tesoro lead 3-1 after Q1. Aiden Ferris scored the final goal of the quarter and on nice nice more unassisted from 8 yards and blew it by the goalie. He had 4 goals on the night and added 1 assist. He was a spark all night. At the start of the 2nd quarter Cole Pollard score to make it 4-1 and it looked like Tesoro might pull away. Pollard also went 3G-1A on the night and added 4 ground balls. He was very active all night, had a nasty off ball cut for a catch and shoot as well. Slick play. A hustling Santa Margarita squad got it as close as 5-4 in the second and momentum was going all their way with a little over two minutes left in the half until a Tesoro man down goal turned out to be a back breaker. Tesoro double up a Santa Margarita player, caused the turnover and converted it to a goal to make it 6-4 in a very smart risk reward by the Tesoro poles and huge momentum changer.
Tesoro’s athletic defense was a difference maker in this one. The sedcond half was all Tesoro as they went on a 4-0 run in the third quarter. Ryan Tabor, Radyn Badraun and Nolan Woodward also had tallies in the game. Nate Warren continues to win the ground ball battles, he had 5 on the night, he’s done it all year, while Caleb Richardson had 4 ground balls.
Last but not least Jackson Brady had another big night in the goal. 14 saves vs 4 goals for a 77.8 save % and that is an elite number period. Second half he caught fire and for sure was feeling it. Made a couple saves off stick side low that should be goals. That second half was legit, 8 saves 0 goals. He’s having a big year to say the least.
Tesoro did it in all phases. Team win. Lots of the plays were made don’t show up on the score sheet, and the effort was there. Credit coach Grubert and his staff, they had the boys ready.
