Foothill scored first and just kept on going on Wednesday to defeat Newport Harbor 16-4. Ten different Knights found the back of the net. Senior goalie Ryan Blank (St. John’s) had 12 saves through the first three quarters before giving way to an equally stingy junior Austin Mann in the fourth quarter.
Foothill scored on its first possession as junior midfielder Cole Falbo twisted around a defender just over one minute into the game. Newport Harbor’s Dane Flinn tied the game before the first quarter was out with his eighth goal of the year. However, by the time Kyle Duffy scored the next Sailors’ goal it was 7-1 with 3:30 left before halftime. By that time, Falbo had a second goal, Steven Oberly had a hat trick, and Kevin Kodzis (Holy Cross) had two assists and a goal. He had a team-high three assists on the night.
Midfielder Jack Garcia and long poles Kosta Dalis and Dalton Rach had four groundballs each. Dalis was credited with three forced turnovers.
Joe Fuller and Alex Pearce also scored for Newport Harbor.
For the Knights, Nathan Skeen, Ellis Geis and Gavin Raetz had two goals each. Evan Brown, Ryan Foy, LSM Jared Copeland and Chris Hunter scored one apiece. Josh Fox had two assists.
