The St. Margaret’s boys lacrosse team improved to 6-1 with a 21-12 road win against Poway on Friday night. Koa Todd led the Tartans with a ten-point night (7g, 3a) night. Stu Pollard once again dominated the dot, winning 28 of 33 (84.8%).
St. Margaret’s jumped up big early (6–1) before Poway made a run to close the gap to 8-7 by halftime. St. Margaret’s quickly doused any Poway hopes of a comeback with a big third quarter that increased their lead to 14-9 entering the final frame. At this point the Tartans’ offense was in Groundhog Day mode with Pollard winning possession and the Tartans scoring over and over again to reach the final count of 21-12.
Nate Sanchez (6 goals and 1 assist), Kevin Groeninger (2 goals and 6 assists), Will Renkinsmeyer (3 goals), John Culley (2 goals), Duke Ballard (1 goal) and Makai Todd (1 goal) rounded out the St. Margaret’s scoring.
St. Margaret’s (no. 8 in the West) heads to the Bay Area next week where they where they will have the opportunity to improve their regional ranking with a strong showing against No. 1 St. Ignatius (7-0) on Thursday. Poway (1-3) play Corner Canyon (UT) on Wednesday.
