Sunset League Roundup

It was a tough week of out-of-league play for the Sunset League teams as the boys and girls lacrosse Sunset League teams went a combined 3-10. Let’s recap all of last week’s games and preview the games for this week.

Boys Lacrosse

Edison (0-0; 1-2)

Last week:  In a frustrating week for Edison, the Chargers gave up fourth-quarter leads in both of their games. The Chargers lost at home to Mater Dei and Aliso Niguel by scores of 8-7 and 6-5 on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. Both of those games had Edison leading going into the fourth quarter.

This week: Edison plays two games this week. The Chargers play at Northwood (6-0) on Tuesday and Temecula Valley (0-2) at home on Thursday. Both games are slated to start at 4 p.m.

Huntington Beach (0-0; 1-3)

Last week: Huntington Beach also lost two non-league home games last week,  The Oilers lost to to No.7 El Toro 6-4 on Tuesday and Yorba Linda 14-7 on Friday.

This week: Huntington Beach has two games at home this week. The Oilers play Dana Hills (0-3) on Tuesday, and open up league on Friday against No.10 Newport Harbor (1-3). Both matches start at 7 p.m.

Los Alamitos (0-0; 1-4)

Last week: Los Alamitos also went 0-2 in its games last week, as the Griffins lost to host Chaminade 10-8 on Wednesday and Murrieta Mesa 8-4 on Friday at Los Alamitos High.

This week: The Griffins play one game this week, against Murrieta Valley (1-3) at home on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Marina (0-0; 4-1)

Last week: Of all the Sunset League teams (boys and girls), Marina was the only one that didn’t lose a game last week. The Vikings beat No.15 JSerra 13-6 at Marina High on Wednesday.

This week: Marina has two challenging games this week. The Vikings play at No.16 Aliso Niguel (3-0) tonight at 7 p.m. and play No.13 Beckman (1-1) on Friday at home at 4 p.m.

Newport Harbor (0-0; 2-3)

Last week: Newport Harbor went 1-1 last week, with both games being at Estancia High. The Sailors lost to No.5 San Clemente 20-4 on Tuesday, but rebounded with a solid 11-8 win over St.Francis of La Canada on Saturday.

This week: Newport Harbor has two tough road games this week. The Sailors play at No.2 Foothill on Tuesday at 5 p.m. and play No.14 Huntington Beach in a St.Patrick’s day Sunset League opener on Friday at 7 p.m.

Girls Lacrosse

Los Alamitos (1-1)

Last week: The Griffins lost their lone game last week, falling to No.4 Corona Del Mar 9-1 on Tuesday.

This week: Los Alamitos plays two games this week, starting tonight at home against San Clemente. Later on in the week, the Griffins play at Valencia of Placentia on Tuesday. Both matches start at 5:30 p.m.

Newport Harbor (3-3)

Last week: The Sailors went 1-2 on its three road games, losing to No.6 Trabuco Hills 13-7 on Tuesday. Newport Harbor then bounced back with a 12-2 victory over Esperanza. The Sailors then closed out the week with a 9-4 loss against La Costa Canyon of Carlsbad.

This week: Newport Harbor plays two games this week. The Sailors play at No.10 Santa Margarita on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and Valencia of Placentia on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Estancia High School.
