St. Margaret’s Routs Mater Dei 16-1

taSt. Margaret’s Episcopal School defeated Mater Dei High School 16-1 on Thursday afternoon at Mater Dei.

The contest was never close. Defensively the Tartans dominated the game from start to finish. St. Margaret’s stingy defensive lead by senior defensemen Brandon Suchand and Scott McGowan, sophomore defenseman Fernando Delgado, sophomore defenseman John Connelly, sophomore defensive middie Mike McGraw, and senior middie Winston Robinson held the Monarch’s scoreless in the first half and allowed just one goal for the game by winning almost all contested ground balls, imposing their tight checking style on Mater Dei ball carriers, and never letting Mater Dei get anything started offensely. The Tartan’s defense pushed out on Mater Dei all afternoon and forced numerous turnovers with aggressive stick and body checks.

Senior goalkeeper Austin Birch had a strong showing in the cage with six saves. Senior middie James Yorke, junior middie Josh Davis, junior middie Hunter Edington, and freshman middie Ryan Shanks took care of the Tartan’s clear game, and sophomore middie/face-off specialist Ryan Harnisch and senior middie Will Schmall had dominating performances on face-offs for the Tartans.

The Tartan offense continues to fire on all cylinders.

The victory was the Tartan’s ninth win in a row and moves St. Margaret’s to 11-4 on the season and 4-0 in Trinity League play.
