St. Margaret’s notched its first win of the season with a bruising 8 – 7 victory over the Oak Park Eagles on a sunny Saturday afternoon at the Tartan’s home field. It was a tight contest throughout as each time the Tartans tried pulling away, the Eagles seemed to have an answer to keep it close. In the end, St. Margaret’s outlasted Oak Park using a balanced scoring attack on offense, and defensively closing down the Eagles when it mattered most.
The Tartans were led offensively by Chase Williams (1g, 3a), Hunter Edington (2g, 2a), and Alex Waller (2g, 1a). The Eagles tight defense seemed to keep the Tartan’s offense off balance for a good part of the game, but St. Margaret’s kept the pressure on, especially in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory. James Yorke and Sam Harnish also scored for St. Margaret’s. Tartan goalie, Austin Birch also notched a rare assist.
Brandon Suchand, John Connelly and Fernando Delgado also played strong games on defense for St. Margaret’s especially in the last furious minutes after the Eagles gained repeated control in their defensive end and pushed the ball down the field for attempts on the Tartan cage. Austin Birch played another strong game in goal for the Tartans making several key saves down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Next up for St. Margaret’s is an away game against Foothill on Wednesday night.
