This past Saturday, the top ranked Tartans hosted perennial powerhouse St. Johns of Houston,Texas. The Tartan laxter’s got off to a fast & furious start with goals sprayed in the Texan’s net from all angles.
By days end, they the Tartans finished with 17 goals, 13 of which were assisted. The Tartan scoring was led by sophomore Nick Shanks, with 5 goals and 3 assists. Junior Patrick Fallon had another fine game, putting 3 goals in the net, and assisting on 5 others. Fresh off helping St. Margaret’s soccer team win a state title, senior Hunter Edington (Manhattan) making his first appearance of the season, scored twice and assisted on 2 others.
Sophomore Sam Harnish and the Davis brothers, senior Josh (Lafayette) and freshman Jeremy, added two goals apiece. Harnish and Josh Davis each had an assist, as did junior Oscar Gomez. Senoir Matt Williams rounded out the scoring with one tally. Aiding the Tartan cause was solid goaltending from sophomore Payton Fales, and aggressive defensive play by junior’s Fernando Delgado (Villanova), John Connelly, Mike McGraw and sophomore Cayson Fincher. At the center x, sophomore Erik Suh won the lion’s share of the face-offs in a strong Tartan showing coming off a lack-luster win the night before in Yorba Linda.
Head Coach Glen Miles said; ” After a rough start to the season Friday night, it was good to see better ball movement from the kid’s”. Everyone involved with the St. Johns program showed great sportsmanship in a losing effort far from home. Both teams got a better chance to get to know each other at a post game cookout, which Coach Miles described as;”Great for the lacrosse community”.
