St. Margaret’s Dominates Newport Harbor 16-9

taSt. Margaret’s Episcopal School notched its second win of the season with an impressive victory over Newport Harbor High School 16-9 on Saturday afternoon in Newport Beach.

Although the Sailors kept the pressure on for the whole contest, the outcome was never in serious doubt as the Tartans scored early and often in a game marred by numerous penalties and choppy ball handling on both teams.  The Tartans never trailed in a game between two long-time rivals as each time Newport looked to make a run, the Tartans came back with goals of their own to extend its lead.

The Tartans moved to 2 and 3 on the season while the Sailors fell to 2 and 5.

Offensively the Tartans were lead by senior attackmen Alex Waller (7g) and Chase Williams (1g, 5a), junior middie Hunter Edington (2g, 1a), freshman attackman Sam Harnish (3g), junior middie Josh Davis (1g, 1a), senior attackman Riley Pok (1g), and senior defenseman Brandon Suchand (1g).  Sophomore middie Oscar Gomez and sophomore attackman Patrick Fallon each added an assist for St. Margaret’s.

Sailors Clay Smyth  (3g), Riley Peterson (2g, 1a), Brandon Rausch (1g, 1a), Brian Team (1g, 1a), Garrett Farthing (1g), and Chris Buchanan (1g) lead the scoring attack for Newport Harbor.

St. Margaret’s returns home for another tough contest on Tuesday night against Cathedral Catholic.  The Sailors return to action on Monday at 3 PM at Peninsula Park (near the Balboa Pier) against Fort Collins of Colorado.
