Sophia Schade Welcomed to Naval Academy Women’s Lacrosse Team

Sophia Schade (Los Alamitos) is one of 13 newcomers to join the Navy Women’s Lacrosse team for the 2016/2017 academic year.  Schade was a 4-year varsity starter, team captain, All American and All County Selection at Los Al.  She also lettered in basketball twice. Schade will wear no. 45 at the Naval Academy.

Allison Shamir who played her junior year at Redondo Union was also announced with the class of 2020.  Shamir helped Redondo Union reach the 2015 Southern Section finals before returning to Farmingdale, NY for her senior year.

The Navy freshman class spans seven different states with four student-athletes hailing from Maryland, three from Virginia two from New York and one each from California, Indiana, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. The class contains array of positional players, which includes three attackers, five midfielders, four defenders and one goalkeeper.

Navy finished the 2016 season 13-6 and reached the Patriot League Championship for the seventh time in the last eight seasons.  The full press release from the Naval Academy is presented below.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy head women’s lacrosse coach Cindy Timchal has announced the program’s 13-member incoming Class of 2020.

Headlining Navy’s 13-member class are attacker Kelly Larkin and midfielder Annalise Heyward. Larkin, an Alexandria, Virginia, native, garnered U.S. Lacrosse All-America honors in 2015 and 2016. She also earned all-state honors in 2014, ’15 and ’16. Heyward, a Charlotte, North Carolina, native, also earned U.S. Lacrosse All-America laurels in 2015 and 2016. She was also a three-time all-conference honoree and was named the Co-Conference Player of the Year in 2014.

Along with Heyward and Larkin, Victoria LaVeck (Marriottsville, Md.) was named a 2016 U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American. Sophia Schade was tabbed a 2015 U.S. Lacrosse All-American.

Kayla Harris, an Arnold, Maryland, native, was named a 2016 First Team All-Anne Arundel County Coaches honoree. Kayla and her identical twin sister Brianna, who is currently enrolled and plays at the University of Florida, both graduated from Broadneck High School.
