Local Teams Start Fast in SLC

D2 Player of the Week: Austin Jenkin, SCU San Marcos Attackman

Jenkin set a career mark in assists while keeping the Cougars perfect in a narrow 12-10 win over Occidental. He also chipped in two goals to bring his tremendous point totals even higher. After putting up 80 points as a freshman, he’s looking to top that in 2015, as he already has 29 through four games. Most importantly, though, CSU-SM is looking to climb in the conference picture, still undefeated and trying to top last year’s 7-8 finishing record.

DII Rookie of the Week: Micah Willis, Cal State Fullerton Freshman Attackman

Willis had been dazzling even before his game against Channel Islands, but any time a freshman is posting an 11-point line (8 goals, 3 assists) it’s going to grab him Rookie of the Week honors. It was a career-high in goals, and based on what we’ve seen from Willis already (37 points in four games), it’s safe to say he may be taking up this spot of the column week in and week out.
