La Costa Canyon Will Host SLC Championships

SAN DIEGO – After producing the MCLA Division I national champion and the Division II runner-up last spring, the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference is primed to begin its tournament this coming weekend with two first round contests in each division.T

The SLC semifinals will follow on Friday, April 29 (D-I) and Saturday, April 30 (D-II) while the finals for both divisions take place on Sunday, May 1. Semifinals and finals will all take place at La Costa Canyon High School in Carlsbad, Calif. The champions in each division will earn an automatic bid to the 2016 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour. Nationals run from May 9-14 in Orange County, Calif.

In Division I, UNLV will visit UC Santa Barbara on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the winner advancing to meet defending national champion Grand Canyon in the semifinals. On the other side of the bracket, Southern Cal makes its first-ever SLC tournament appearance when it visits Arizona State on Sunday at 1 p.m. The winner of the Trojans-Sun Devils tilt will draw top-ranked Chapman in the semis.

In Division II, Cal State San Marcos travels to Northern Arizona on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the winner squaring up with 2015 national runner-up Concordia-Irvine in the semis. Biola and San Diego tangle on Saturday at 7 p.m. for the right to face Cal State Fullerton in the other semifinal.
