Faceoff specialist Jason Simaan (Corona del Mar High School) earned national recognition at the Greene Turtle 2016 Team Invitational at the McDonough School in Owings Mills, Maryland this past weekend. Simaan, who was playing for his club team 3D Select, dominated the face-off x throughout the event. Ty Xanders of Inside Lacrosse had this to say about Simaan’s performance: “I’m not sure how I didn’t know about Simaan – I’d imagine many top college coaches felt the same way. He put the ball wherever he wanted, only losing two face-offs in a game against Mesa Fresh, the first and last draws of the game against a longpole. He’s a bonafide game changer.”
Simaan’s emergence as a face off specialist adds intrigue to the upcoming high school season. The unprecedented dominance last year of faceoff specialists like reigning player of the year Ryan Harnisch (St. Margaret’s Episcopal School) and Austin Babb (Foothill High School) forever changed the game in Orange County, and has given local coaches a new dimension of the game to address. Harnisch’s early dominance at the faceoff x was a deciding factor in the US Lacrosse Southern Section championship game last year between CdM and St. Margaret’s. Have Coach Mix and the Sea Kings found the missing piece to their puzzle?
Simaan plays club ball for Brady’s Bunch, the 3D Select regional team, and the 3D Select national team. Want to see him in action? He will be playing for Brady’s Bunch this weekend at the Palm Desert LAX Classic.
