Servite opened their Trinity League schedule by defeating Mater Dei 12-5. The Friars never trailed and gradually expanded a 4-3 first quarter lead to the final score. The Friars defense went into lockdown mode after the first quarter, allowing only two goals the rest of the way. Jakob Decano had 9 saves while his defense forced six turnovers and recovered 30 groundballs to keep the pressure off of him.
Stephen Shatynski scored four goals and Kyle Cartwright added a hat trick to lead the Servite offense. Donovan Harper added two goals and Chase Anderson, Austin Felix, and Hayden Rodenbeck scored one apiece. Rafael Fabila performed well at the faceoff X.
Freshman Sean Waterman scored three goals to pace the Monarchs’ offense. Jack Southron added two goals and Nick Sando found the back of the net once. Reigning defensive player of the week Nick Bauer handed out two assists and recovered nine groundballs.
Next up: Servite (3-3; 1-0) takes a spring break trip to Long Island to play Northshore, Bellmore JFk, and Wantagh next week. Mater Dei (4-5; 0-2) plays Great Oak on Tuesday.
