Selection Saturday: It's Anyone's Guess

FB150x150MaxLaxOCDiagonalAs the Orange County High School boys lacrosse regular season wraps us this afternoon, coaches and players throughout the county will be waiting to hear whether they made the playoffs this year and who they’ll be playing starting Tuesday. While life contains few certainties, we can be certain that Foothill and Corona del Mar will occupy two of the top three spots following impressive regular seasons. The St. Margaret’s at JSerra game on Saturday will decide the Trinity League title and likely the third top seed (and possibly fourth) in the playoff bracket. After that, it’s anyone’s guess as to how the committee will seed the tourney featuring 16 teams. Two other Saturday games will have direct impact on the seeding committee as Los Alamitos hopes for a Top 8 spot while hosting on-the-bubble Newport Harbor and Dana Hills vs. Beckman will also factor in the final seeding for two teams surely to be in the committee’s Top 16.

Saturday, April 27th – Boys and Girls Seeding Committee Meeting – Time TBD

Tuesday, April 30th – Boys and Girls 1st Round – Played at the Higher Seed Home Field

Thursday, May 2rd – Boys and Girls 2nd Round- Played at the Higher Seed Home Field

Saturday, May 4th – Boys and Girls Semi -Finals – Aliso Niguel High School (Girls 1:00pm & 3:00pm / Boys 5:00pm & 7:15pm)

Wednesday, May 8th – Boys and Girls Orange County Finals – Mission Viejo HS (Girls 5:15 pm / Boys 7:150 pm)

Saturday, May 11th – Boys and Girls Southern Section Championships (OC vs. LA at West High School in Torrance; Girls 11:00 am / Boys 1:00 pm)

BOYS
  • 16 teams will be Selected and will be seeded 1 through 16 with 1 vs 16 etc.
  • Tournament is  single elimination

GIRLS

  • 16 teams will be Selected and will be seeded 1 through 16 with 1 vs 16 etc.
  • Tournament is  single elimination

NOTES:

Teams that are seeded higher seeded and hosting the first or second round, must have a host field that has a visible scoreboard and game clock.
