The Corona Del Mar boys lacrosse team ended its regular season on a strong note, with an 8-3 win over San Clemente.

The Sea Kings (15-3) were led by Simon Hall and Logan Ip, who both had three goals. Ty Caffarelli and Nate Montgomery each chipped in one goal each for CdM.

Logan Ip (3 goals) jump started the Sea Kings with the first two goals of the game, and the Sea Kings never looked back.  Despite the best efforts of goalie Eugene Kang who was stellar throughout the game, the Tritons would never catch up.

The Tritons were able to create scoring opportunities but Sea Kings’ goalie Kyle Cord was there to stop almost every shot, and allowed only one goal in the first half.  After Ip completed his hat trick and Ty Caffearelli added his lone goal, CdM carried a 4-1 lead into halftime.

Much like the first half, CdM dominated the second.  Simon Hall opened the second half scoring before the Tritons answered back to make it a 5-2 game.  But the Sea Kings shrugged off their mistake and rattled off three straight goals with two coming from Hall and one coming from Montgomery, giving the Sea Kings an 8-2 lead heading into the final quarter.

While the CdM offense didn’t score in the final quarter, it limited the Tritons to only one goal. The three goals are the fewest the Tritons (9-8) have scored this year.

Both teams now turn their attention to the up and coming playoffs. Playoff brackets will be released around 5 p.m.
