The Corona Del Mar boys lacrosse team clinched a share of the Sunset League title with a 13-5 win over Edison on Monday at Edison High School. CdM (10-1, 5-0) can win the Sunset League title outright and an automatic post-season bid by defeating Newport Harbor (8-6, 4-0) on Wednesday.
Logan Ip and Aidan Kelly (pictured left and in the middle) led the Sea Kings with three goals apiece while Richard Eusey and Simon Hall each had two goals. Jackson Guizan, Kyle Mix, and Ryan Rector each scored once for the Sea Kings, who got 10 saves from Kyle Cord (pictured right).
The Sea Kings quickly put Saturday’s loss to Foothill behind them and jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter. CdM held the Chargers off the scoreboard until the 8:45 mark of the second quarter and led 6-3 at halftime.
With the Sea Kings up 7-4 in the third quarter, they then started to pull away, as they kept Edison off the scoreboard until the three minute mark of the fourth quarter. By the time the Chargers had scored, the Sea Kings led 12-5 and eventually won 13-5.
Ryan Swank, Drake Choi, Trevor Ambrose and Dom Rehak all scored for the Chargers (6-4, 2-2).
The Chargers continue league play on Friday at Laguna Beach (0-7, 0-4) at 6 p.m.
