Fresh off Friday’s 14-8 win over Bay League rival Palos Verdes, which earned them a split of their two league games this season, the Redondo Union Sea Hawks received 14 of 16 first-place votes and moved back to No. 1 in the MaxLaxLA coaches poll.

Redondo had opened the season as a unanimous No. 1, but Palos Verdes took over that spot after beating Redondo 10-8 on March 13. Friday, the Sea Hawks returned the favor and returned to No. 1 in this week’s voting. The Sea Kings are No. 2, having received two first-place votes.

Crescenta Valley, Downey and Valencia were the other notable movers in the voting, with CV moving from No. 7 to No. 5 after beating Chaminade, Downey cracking the Top 10 after winning six in a row and Valencia moving from unranked into the Top 20 after knocking off No. 16 Birmingham.

The Rankings this week have expanded to be a full Top 25 in order to provide a better look at the teams potentially competing for berths in the LA Postseason Invitational tournament. The LA Championship tournament will seed the 16 most deserving teams into its bracket, and the LA Invitational tournament will seed eight of the top remaining teams.

With the coaches ranking only the Top 20 previously, there was little to no information about how the coaches viewed the next group of teams that will be vying for postseason invitations. The expanded poll now includes Dos Pueblos, Peninsula, Royal, Culver City and Long Beach Poly at Nos. 21-25 with four weeks left in the regular season.
