The San Clemente Tritons, playing as their club team “SC Wave”, entered two teams in this year’s Palm Desert Lax Classic (Nov 29 – 30) and went a combined 9-2 in their 11 games. The teams outscored the competition 86 – 37.
In the U19 Open Division, SC went into the championship game undefeated at 5-0. In a rematch with the LA Cobras, SC came from two goals down in the second half but ended up one score short of the title. The Cobras won the sea-saw battle, 6-5. A balanced attack accounted for the SC goals. Senior attackman Jack Renard (U.S. Merchant Marine Academy) led the offensive onslaught with 19 goals over the six games, while Nick Lemus, David Howren, Riley Paredes, Matt Keany, Eric Zoe, Garrett Eslick and 12 other Wave players scored.
The defense, led by junior Caleb Bozarth, Omeed Farhadi, Ryan Crawford and goalies Austin Boyer and Harrison Webb, limited opponents to 3 goals per game on average.
The SC U17 team likewise entered the playoffs unbeaten, losing to OC Crush (Foothill) in the semifinals. Playing with limited numbers, the SC Wave U17s took the field with four brand-new players — having either never played or seen a game. Despite losing in the semi-finals, the effort of some Iron Man Lacrosse was impressive.
A sudden-death win over Brady’s Bunch was the highlight for the U17s. Sophomore Riley Paredes iced it for the SC Wave with a thrilling “Braveheart” solo goal. Harrison Webb was a stopper in goal, with 11 saves in the game.
