The Santiago boys lacrosse team survived a comeback attempt from Mater Dei, winning 10-8 on Tuesday at Santiago High School.
Santiago started out strong in the first quarter, leading 3-1 until Mater Dei tied the game at 3-3 with two straight goals. The Sharks answered back thanks to a goal from Parr to give them a 4-3 lead after the first quarter.
The Sharks increased their scoring output with three straight goals and eventually led 7-3 late in the second quarter.
But the Monarchs roared back and took an 8-7 lead in the fourth quarter. The Sharks however, had an answer as Koenig scored the equalizer at the 7:56 mark and gave the Sharks a 9-8 lead at the 2:03 mark of the fourth quarter.
The Sharks added an insurance goal from DeWiggins, as the Sharks’ two-game losing streak was halted.
Both teams return to action on Friday. Santiago (5-3) play at Chaparral (0-4) while the Mater Dei (5-3) plays at JSerra in a Trinity League game.
