Santa Margarita Tops Trabuco Hills 12-5

The  team topped their hosts, the Trabuco Hills Mustangs, 12-5 on Wednesday. The Eagles (2-0) continue their strong start to the young season while the Mustangs (2-1) dropped the first game of their 2018 campaign.

Santa Margarita seemed to be in control the entire game.  They got off to a hot start with four goals in the first quarter, compared to only one by Trabuco. The Eagles added two and the Mustangs added another to bring the game to 6-2 in favor of the Eagles at the half.

An offensive third quarter headlined the start of the second half with the Eagles and Mustangs tacking on three goals apiece. Santa Margarita’s tough and physical defense kept the Mustang offense at bay in the fourth, securing the win for the Eagles.

Offensively, (4G, 2A),  (1G, 3A), (3G), (1G, 2A), (2G, 1A) and (1G) led the Eagles. Defensively, Santa Margarita harassed the Mustangs throughout the night,  forcing 11 total turnovers, with and  leading the way with three each. had 10 saves between the pipes.

Despite the Eagles daunting defensive performance Wednesday, the Mustangs got offensive contributions from (3G), (1G, 1A), (1G) and (1A).

The Eagles return to the field Saturday for their 2018 home opener against rival Tesoro (2-0) at 1:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the Mustangs matchup with Mater Dei (1-2) at 1:30 p.m.
