Santa Margarita looked dominant for the second consecutive game as they shut out El Toro 13 – 0 in the Eagles’ home opener. Once again an unselfish offense (9 different goal scorers) and a stout team defense added up to victory for the Eagles. Skyler Rockey and Andrew Kofoed led the Eagles with 4 points each.

Hayden Ruiz got the Eagles started with an unassisted left handed laser that found the top corner at 3:51 of the first quarter. Less than a minute later, Brett Enochs dodged on the right side of the cage and found the back of the net from 10 yards out to make 2-0 Santa Margarita. The Chargers had a chance to get back in the game with two extra man opportunities in the final two minutes of the quarter but the Eagles man-down defense was up to the challenge. Santa Margarita allowed only on shot on goal in the three man down situations they faced on the evening.
Santa Margarita’s offense took control of the game in the second quarter as they scored six goals to close out the half at 8-0. Enochs got it started with his second goal of the night, this one on a feed from freshman Doc Dochterman. The sophomore tandem of Michael Flint and Andrew Kofoed added another talley 30 seconds later when Flint scored on a feed from Kofoed to make it 4-0. Goals by Rockey (assist from Kofoed), Gould, Kofoed, and Rockey again (assist from Ruiz) closed out the half at 8-0 in Santa Margarita’s favor.
Santa Margarita add four more in the third quarter: Kofoed from Rockey, Ruiz from Rockey, Cullen Bock on nice shot on the run that found the top corner, and Rockey. Junior Keaton Ebner added the final goal at 7:36 of the fourth quarter.
The Eagles are now 2-0 on the season while the Chargers fell to 1-1. Next up for Santa Margarita is a home game Saturday night against Los Alamitos. El Toro travels to JSerra on Tuesday night.
