Leading by just one goal midway through the third quarter, No. 5 Santa Margarita used a late scoring spree to fight off upset minded No. 15 El Toro in a non-league game at Santa Margarita Catholic High School on Wednesday night. The final score was 14-8.
Freshman Quintin Buchman (1 goal, 4 assists), having the biggest night of his young career, teamed up with Wagner-bound senior Nico Houser (5g) to form the exclusive five-point club. Andrew Kofoed (Notre Dame de Namur) and Logan Dochterman each finished the game with hat tricks. Lucas Mullarkey (1g), and Jack Fisher (1g, 1a) completed the scoring for the Eagles. Max Vought had eight saves, Billy Senecal won eight faceoffs, and David Fice picked up three groundballs.
Nick Skeffington (3g), Parker Core (2g, 1a), and Clay Gilmour (3a) led the Chargers with three points apiece. Maeson Levitt (2a), Ryan Pauley (1g), and Jason Hastings (2g) also tallied points for El Toro. Morgan Dunn had nine saves. Sophomore Tyler Collins continued the impressive defense he has been displaying all season long.
