Head Coach Adam Guy has announced that seniors Nico Houser and Lucas Mullarkey, and junior Eric Rubak will be the Santa Margarita Catholic High School captains for 2015. The three captains will lead a team that should contend for a Trinity League crown and maybe even a Southern Section championship in Guy’s second year at the helm of the program.
Houser, who will play Division 1 lacrosse at Wagner College in the fall, has been a member of the Eagles varsity since his sophomore year. Still recovering from a leg injury that cost him his sophomore season, Houser slowly but surely improved throughout 2014, and finished the season 28 goals, 7 assist, 4 CTOs, and 17 groundballs. Houser is a physical and versatile player capable of switching between midfield and attack but will likely spend most of his time in the midfield this year.
Mullarkey follows in the footsteps of big brother Connor who captained the Eagles in 2012. He also has been playing varsity lacrosse since his sophomore year. His performance as a defensive midfielder made him one of the unsung heroes of last year’s success.
Rubak is preparing for his third year of varsity lacrosse. He is a fast, physical shutdown defenseman who will likely draw the opponent’s top scoring threat. Expect Rubak to be one of the top defensemen in the OC this year.
Coach Guy feels that the leadership of the team is in good hands “We are very proud and excited about Nico, Lucas and Eric leading our team this season as captains. Each, brings a different set of skills on to the field and each of them are leaders off the field as well. All three players were starters last year and are well aware of the challenges we will face this season as well as the expectations we have as a team. I have the utmost confidence in their ability to lead and I am excited to watch them excel on the field.”
