The San Marcos Royals won their 11th consecutive game Friday, beating crosstown rival Santa Barbara 14-3 to improve to 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the Channel League.
The Royals opened with the same quick passing and rifle shots that they had in the teams’ previous meeting, a 14-2 San Marcos victory. Friday, co-captain Justin Lehman put the first goal in and went on to score four goals and deliver assists. Mason Zimmerman had one of his best games, with five assists and one goal. Issac Oh and Trey Tank each had two goals and two assists, and Oh shared the game ball with teammate Shea Rousseau.
Scoring came from many players, including Luca Sautto, Max Gaynes, Joseph Pansossian, Lucas McDonald, Michael Palmer and Rousseau.
The Royals defense again was dominant, allowing only three goals. It was the sixth time this season San Marcos has allowed three or fewer. Senior Richard Marquez was awesome off the bench, giving the Royals key stops to stifle the Dons.
The Royals play Cate and Thacher at home next week to finish the regular season. They are hoping to earn the first playoff berth in the program’s four-year history. San Marcos is currently ranked No. 18 in the US Lacrosse/MaxLaxLA coaches poll and No. 16 among Southern Section North teams in the LaxPower.com computer rating.
