Division 1 Championship Preview

This years San Diego Division 1 Championship features a matchup between the Santa Fe Christian Eagles (15-3) and the San Marcos Knights (11-10). Both teams enter the championship game after fighting off serious challenges in the semi finals.  SFC edged out Scripps Ranch 9-8 and San Marcos was able to withstand La Jolla Country Day 8-6.  Those close games should have both teams razor sharp on Saturday.

For San Marcos, look for Hoby Teets to get things started offensively. Standing 6-foot-3, 190 lbs., The size and speed that the Westminster commit brings to the lacrosse field makes him a tough matchup for any defense. If he gets the ball in his stick in transition, his team usually scores. Santa Fe Christian head coach Tom Demaio says of the Knights, “They have a skilled attack, strong defense, and some mids who can really bring it. Certainly one of the more well rounded teams we have seen all year. It will be a lot of fun to play them on the big stage.”

Santa Fe Christian will rely on Hank Ontiveros (Wagner) to get possession at the faceoff X and contribute offensively as well. While attacking look for David Divja., A physical presence, Divjak is not afraid to bully his way to the cage. Do it all middie Garret Lipscomb should be a major contributor for the Eagles as well. On the back end, sophomore goalie Grant Koopman will look to stop San Marcos’ Teets and the rest of the Knights offense.
