San Clemente got off to a quick start against Poway on Saturday, the defending San Diego CIF champions, on Saturday, but could not hang on. Matt Keaney scored off the opening faceoff to give the Tritons a 1-0 lead 10 seconds into the game, but it was all Poway after that. The Titans opened up a 6-3 halftime lead and then pulled away in the second half for the 14-5 win.
Nick Beeson (4 goals) and Harrison Greaves (3g, 1a) paced the Poway offense. Jake Landon (2g), Bailey McLaughlin (1g), Owen Springett (1g, 1a), Brett Masaki (1g), Matt Letteri (2g), Brad Belasco (1g) rounded out the Poway scoring. Long poles Jake Fiske, McLaughlin, Chase Crawford, and Tony Chassen teamed up to keep the San Clemente offense at bay. Kellan Cutting was solid between the pipes and in the clearing game.
Branden Wilson led the San Clemente offense with two goals. Keaney (1g), Omeed Farhadi (1g, 1a), Nick Lemus (1g), and Liam Nelson (1a) also contributed to the offensive production. Austin Boyer was solid between the pipes, making some point blank saves.
