San Clemente held off Tesoro 13-7 in a tough opening contest for both Top 10 teams. San Clemente jumped out to a 4-1 first quarter lead but Tesoro fought back in the second quarter to close the gap at halftime to 7-4. The third quarter remained tight but San Clemente pulled away in the final quarter for a 13-7 win. The San Clemente offense delivered a balanced attack with eight players contributing goals. Nick Lemus led the offense (3g, 1a) along with Matt Keany (2g, 1a), Josh Sanchez (2g,1a), and Liam Nelson (2g) notching multiple goals each. The San Clemente defense, led by Omeed Farhadi with 5 GB’s, pressured Tesoro into a handful of turnovers which they converted to goals. Also, goalie Harrison Webb was stingy in the net turning back a flurry of Tesoro shots. The SC scoring was rounded out with Brandon Wilson, Sander Lush, Omeed Farhadi and David Howren each chipping in with one goal. Tesoro’s offense was led by Spooner (3g, 1a), Moreta (2g), Harrington (1g) and Gibson (1g). Next up for Tesoro is Newport Harbor on March 3rd while San Clemente travels to play Newport Harbor on March 7th at Estancia High School.
