San Clemente hosted Los Alamitos in Round 1 of the Southern Section CIF playoff Tuesday night at Vista Hermosa Sports Park in San Clemente. The Triton offense struck early and often putting Los Alamitos on their heels from the outset. A 3-0 first quarter lead jumped to 9-0 at half and Los Al was unable to mount a significant comeback threat with the game ending 16-4. Los Al goals were scored by Matt Fanelli, Trenton Jones, James Sparks, and Ethan Campos. The Griffins ended their season 10-9.
The Triton offense again had a tremendous offensive output. Matt Keany led the team with 5 goals and 2 assists. Air Force commit Nick Lemus (2g,4a) and David Howren (3g,2a) also had big nights for San Clemente with additional support from Liam Nelson (2g,2a), Brandon Wilson (1g,2a), Eric Zoe (1g,1a), Salisbury State-bound Josh Sanchez (1g), and Jack Szabo(1g). The Tritons won the ground ball war and played stellar defense behind Omeed Farhadi (5 gb), Nick Amico, Garrett Silverman and Jack Regalado. The goalie tandem of starter Harrison Webb and Lewis Ahola turned away the Griffin offense all night. Ahola contributed 4 outstanding saves in the fourth quarter to thwart a Los Al comeback. Next up for the Tritons is a quarterfinal game vs. league foe El Toro May 4 at 7 p.m. at San Clemente High School.
