Corona del Mar boys lacrosse, ranked no. 9 in the West in Nike US/Lacrosse poll, handily defeated El Toro 17-5 on Tuesday night. The game was won in typical Sea King fashion, shutdown defense and balanced scoring on offense. Ten different Sea Kings, led by Sachin Gokhale’s six points (3g, 3a), found the back of the net.
CdM jumped out to a 5-1 first quarter lead and kept up a steady pace after that. The lead grew to 8-2 by halftime. While the offense added nine more points in the second, Kyle Cord (10 saves) and his defense made life difficult for the Chargers by allowing only three second half goals. Nick Puglia and Sam Haase combined to win 14 of 25 faceoffs.
The CdM scoring parade was led by Gokhale’s six points and Eric Fries‘ hat trick. Ryan Meckler (2g, 1a), Will Favreau, and Connell McLean each scored two goals. Kyle Young, Jake Elisius, Jordan Pakzad, Cameron Kayl, and Matt Keasey added singletons.
Senior long poles Jordan Pakzad and Brennan Greenwald led the defense with four groundballs each.
Anthony Priolo scored a pair of goals for El Toro. Jared Vlach, Connor Kentros, and Bryan Wallace rounded out the Chargers’ scoring with one goal each.
Next up for the Sea Kings is a no. 1 vs no. 2 duel with Foothill on Saturday. El Toro begins the South Coast League gauntlet with a game at San Clemente on St. Patrick’s Day.
