Huntington Beach boys’ lacrosse coach Ryan Kelaher has stepped down as head coach. The announcement was made on Monday via email.
According to Kelaher, there was a schedule conflict with his full-time teaching job at Mater Dei High School. Despite resigning, Kelaher said that the parents at Huntington Beach were understanding.
“I do thank all the Huntington Beach parents and players for a good two years. In that time we were able to transform that program into Sunset League champions and the JV went undefeated,” Kelaher said via email.
Kelaher took over for the Oilers in 2016 and coached Huntington Beach to its first league title since 2013 this past spring. Kelaher was also named the Sunset League coach of the year.
Huntington Beach went 9-10 overall and 6-2 in the Sunset League last spring. The Oilers lost to top-seeded Corona Del Mar 11-1 in the first round of the playoffs. Kelaher said the Oilers will continue to succeed in the coming years.
